Picture Frame/Part & Tabbing Example

A key concept in using Invert-A-Bolt™ fasteners & related products is the idea of tabbing parts. Whether it is a nesting application (to reduce setup time & cycle time) or for individual parts, it is important to know/understand/apply the concepts of tabbing. Please refer to the pictures in which over-the-top, foil, and mid-flange type tabbing is shown/described. For even more understanding, download the provided 3D CAD *.STEP file in which these features are modeled.

Call us if you have questions! But, please note a couple of things:

  • The model only shows the finished condition of the part. It does not show the interim material situation as the part is machined.
  • The over-the-top and foil type tabs are only revealed in the FINAL OPERATION of machining the part. This is the beauty of using this concept~ the part is very stable until the final operation, when the tabs are formed.
  • The IVB Universal Common Modular Fixture (UCMF) is often used for nesting parts, but requires the use of the tabbing concept to accomplish the benefits of that process.
