We have talked about this little vise a lot now, but I want to bring it up again because our guys love it. It’s not very heavy but it can do a lot of good work for you because it is a rugged device.
I remember how I came to the point I wanted to develop this in the first place. I was walking through a customer’s plant, a large aerospace company, and they pointed over to where they were running a competitor’s dove tail vise. Now, at the time, we didn’t have one, but, they mentioned that it was not very stable, and I thought to myself that we can do better.
So, what we did was that we developed a vise that grips more material but creates a much more stable environment for you to use and what we found in our own use of this vise is that it is very robust and a very good overall vise to use.
There are some features about it that make it unique and patent pending. The fact that it can be used not just as a dovetail vise but as a straight vise makes it an important addition to the products that are out there in the world.
As you can see, it has the take-up holes for the invert-a-bolt fasteners and it can be used in one of our modular fixtures and can be directly connected to the fixture without any bolts or clamps. You can see that the pusher here has a gripper on the back which allows it to be used in tandem with other dovetail vises, we can then drive them from both sides and it can be used to hold parts, both as a straight vise or as a dovetail vise. This is reversible, so we made it, so we can take it out and reverse it if you wanted to.
It also has multiple location possibilities where you use the Xcerts, the retractable dowel pins they come in and out, so you can use a hole or a slot to locate here. We also have an end stop and these end stops can be used in one of four locations. The reason we have those locations is so that the vise can be used on both sides, that is what makes this unique.
What I’m going to do now is that we are going to marry this video up with one in which this part was being machined.
I just wanted to go through some of the features of this vise, load this part up on there. You can watch the video in which this part was being machined, but I think you will be impressed with the vise. As you can see, we can stop it against this edge or we could have bored a hole in the bottom of this part for location.
